Some frequently asked questions

  • Dont worry, 99% of our clients have been able to paddle a SUP board after a brief introductory lesson. As long as you can stand on your feet with a little bit of balance you will be up and going in no time.

The same goes for paddling one of our Sit on Top kayaks. Our kayaks are very stable and with just a little bit of balance you shouldn't have a problem.

  • The short answer is: NO on a SUP board and YES on a kayak. It is a NSW Maritime directive that all people paddling a kayak must wear an approved life jacket in any body of water. While you dont have to wear a life jacket on a SUP board we do ask you to wear your leg rope at all times. If you would like to wear a life jacket on your SUP we have a variety of sizes to suit everybody.

  • Early morning on a mid to high tide is definitely the best time to paddle. This is before the afternoon sea breeze gets up. On a mid to high tide you can also explore much more of the lake. At low tide you will be paddling more in the main channel and encountering much more boating traffic.

  • On a kayak you have to stay inside Merimbula Lake from the bridge to the entrance of the lake at Bar Beach.

You are allowed out to sea on a SUP board however unless you are a strong paddler we wouldn't recommend it. If you do want to take the SUP out to sea or in the surf you must talk to us prior to your departure.

  • When you hire a board or a kayak from Mitchies Jetty you pick up and return your craft on the waters edge right beside the jetty. No need for roof racks or crossing dangerous roads.
